Richard N Bernstein, Esq.
Richard Bernstein is a skilled and experienced negotiator and communicator. An attorney with more than three decades of experience, Mr. Bernstein has vast knowledge on corporate finance, strategic and venture capital financing's, mergers and acquisitions, licensing and technology transfer transactions; domestic and international joint ventures; nonprofit organizations; and general corporate matters. He brings his wealth of experience and insight representing large corporations to the other side now, fighting large corporations for the people who they have hurt. He understands how big businesses operate and that positions him well to challenge them.
If it seems Mr. Bernstein knows what plaintiffs go through it’s because he does. After being prescribed Amiodarone for an irregular heartbeat, Mr. Bernstein suffered the rare side effect of partial blindness, which occurs in between 1 and 2% of those who take the medication. He was not compensated because the drug maker had already reached a mass settlement with multiple victims of the same side effects. By then, the manufacturer began to print warnings on the label. Moreover, his doctor did not carry malpractice insurance. But the episode has made Mr. Bernstein more understanding of his clients’ perspective – and it has made him more passionate about bad drug and medical device cases.
Mr. Bernstein has counseled private and public companies in a variety of matters, including formation, financing, intellectual property, and strategic alliances. He has also managed mergers and acquisition transactions and technology licensing matters in the United States, Israel, Poland, the Netherlands, Russia, Ukraine, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.
In addition to his busy work life, Mr. Bernstein serves as a board member for several non-profit organizations and advocating for them in both local and international arenas.
Mr. Bernstein earned a Bachelor in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1976 and starting the MBA program in 1977. He then went to the University of Miami, where he earned a J.D. in 1980, graduating cum laude.
Mr. Bernstein was managing partner, for 16 years, of Cohen, Berke, Bernstein, Brodie and Kondell, P.A. (1984-2000), a corporate shareholder with Carlton Fields, P.A. (2000-2002), chair of Miami corporate department of Steel Hector & Davis (2002-2005) and a shareholder and senior Of Counsel with the international law firm of Greenberg Traurig, P.A. (2005-2018)
